Midfielder has started just seven Premier League matches for United since his £55 million move from Chelsea last summer
Mason Mount has spoken of his frustration after his injury nightmare at Manchester United struck again.
United are expected to confirm the £42 million signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain and £25.2 million departure of Scott McTominay to Napoli on Friday but another midfielder continues to be plagued by problems.
Mount, 25, has suffered a new muscle injury that is due to keep him out of United’s next three matches at least, starting against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. United then play Southampton and Barnsley after the international break.
The England midfielder was substituted at half-time of United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday and is now set for a fresh spell on the sidelines.
Mount has started just seven Premier League matches for United since his £55 million move from Chelsea last summer after being beset by injury problems and will hope his latest setback does not develop into a bigger issue like some of his previous injuries.
“During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue,” Mount wrote on his social media accounts. “I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games.
“Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.
“I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
United are expected to complete their fifth and possibly final signing of a productive summer window with the arrival of Ugarte from PSG. The Uruguay midfielder, 23, who has been targeted to fill the troublesome No 6 position, will cost an initial £42 million with a further £8.4 million payable in add-ons.
In what is likely to be a busy deadline day at Old Trafford, McTominay is set to end his 20-year association with United by joining Napoli for £25.2 million in what would be the sixth highest transfer fee ever received by the club.
The Scotland international, 27, was given a rapturous reception by Napoli fans after arriving in Italy on Thursday to undergo a medical and finalise his move.
Greater uncertainty surrounds the future of Jadon Sancho, who is the subject of interest from Juventus and Chelsea and could leave either permanently or on loan.
There remains the possibility that if Sancho joined Chelsea then fellow England forward Raheem Sterling could move in the other direction but there are a significant number of hurdles to cross for that to happen. United will only do a deal that makes financial and football sense.
Beyond Sancho, United are open to offers for Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro although it seems unlikely any of those players will leave before the deadline barring a notable turn of events.
United have already sold or released 11 senior players this summer, with McTominay set to follow.
